Going Green

003There are a couple of projects that I've seen throughout the years that I've wanted to try. And this is one of them. I got it from the link here. It was fairly easy. I used old t-shirts saved from the local thrift store... poor things. But, I found it somewhat hard sewing with t-shirt material. I'm looking forward to making many more to help our little landfill of plastic shopping bags while helping save the unwanted t-shirts.

Up-Cycled Shrinky Dinks

Necklace

Did you know that #6 plastic lids are Dinks that Shrink is disguise? ...neither did I! Now.. I'm dying to order the next bento box at the local sushi place just for the lid. Not sure if anyone is looking for a tutorial... but it's super easy. And here's a pic. (camera phones don't do it justice) It's really a cutie.

3 Years in the Making!

Okay- this is my 4th try at making some kind of Advent calendar in the past 3 years. This actual one took me about 9 months of make- off and on, but it's done!!! YEAH!!! You can find the pattern on allsorts' blog here. It's so cute and it holds a square of Ghirardelli Christmas edition chocolate. Just so the kids don't get too much sweets, I've bought a few party favors and I'll tuck a note in each one directing them to their surprise. 001

Remember this? Well I got a newsletter letting me know how the process of the Mother's Day Project is going... And there is Linda Ann Tarango Griess' name done in my stitching on the finished piece. The work that Anne Landre did is truly amazing. Her vision has way surpassed my expectations. You can look at the finished work here. It is wonderful. When I was in Fiber class at Wichita State, this is the type of work that we would take field trips to see. It's just... awesome!  The original thought was to make a tote of the names, give them to the families of the fallen soldiers to use, and then the stitchers. I can't even imagine walking around with this art piece on my shoulder. I couldn't do it. It's too much. It really needs to be in an art show. So... if you know anybody that could use this piece in a museum or art gallery.. please let Anne know. Linda

Ginger Blossom Quilted Purse

I haven't been much in the blogging mood. Nobody reads this thing anyway... Oh, that sounded pitiful huh? Well, I've broke out the sewing machine once again... I have a feeling now that summer is over, it will get alot more attention. Poor thing.

I made a quilted purse from here. I just love this pattern. It's the perfect size. Big enough to fit everything in to, but not too big that you can't find anything and it doesn't look to over sized. I've made quite a few, but seem to give them all away. I had just made one when a good friend of ours told us they were moving away. So... I wanted her to have a little piece of me. But this one I made in a Saturday morning, and it's MINE! ALL MINE!!! (Evil laugh) Gingerpurse Gingerpurseinside

Pincushion

Somewhere in the move, I lost my pincushion.  I know right? I loved that black and white toile rectangle. But, it was pretty boring if you look at all the cute pincushions that are out there now. So, in one of my craft magazines, I saw this. Cute huh? Well, I cut the pattern out at work. (shh... don't tell) and sewed it up last night. HOW COME I CAN'T SEW A CIRCLE TO CIRCLE TOGETHER!?!? Everytime I do it, I'm all messed up. Even with purses. I think I give up after this. Or, I'll have to search some hints. So here it is in all it's crooked glory. 005 Whatever- it hold the pins now.
